Mason County Promise 2027 Scholarship Expansion

Mason County Promise Scholarship Expansion Overview

The Mason County Promise Zone has received state approval to expand the Promise Scholarship beginning with the high school graduating class of 2027. We will share initial public information in a press release in June 2026, with related applications opening this fall.

Beginning with the class of 2027, Promise Scholars will have two scholarship pathways:

1. Promise Community Scholarship (with Transfer Award option)
This pathway maintains the current WSCC Promise Scholarship structure, including:

  • Tuition and mandatory fees coverage up to 72 attempted credits at WSCC

  • Eligibility for up to two Educational Expenses Awards (EEA*)

New for 2027 graduates, students who enroll at WSCC and earn postsecondary credits will also be eligible for a one-time Transfer Award to use toward continuing their education through full-time study at any Michigan Title IV institution.

  • Must be used within 6 years of high school graduation

  • Students must be enrolled full-time and remain in good standing

Please note: Dual-enrolled students who do not attend WSCC after graduation, summer guest students, and Promise Statewide Scholarship recipients are not eligible for the Transfer Award.

2. Promise Statewide Scholarship
This is a one-time, flat award supporting first-year, full-time enrollment at any Michigan Title IV institution.

  • Must be used within 15 months of high school graduation

  • Flat award covers costs as a last-dollar award, for use up to total cost of attendance

Students who choose this option are not eligible for the Community Scholarship's Transfer Award. However, they may still attend WSCC as summer guest students or transfer back to WSCC for Promise Community Scholarship coverage if they have not exceeded 72 attempted credits.  The Statewide Scholarship award amount for class of 2027 will be released to rising seniors in June.

Award amounts for both the Statewide Scholarship and the Transfer Award  will be released to rising seniors from class of 2027 and the public in June. After that the one-time, flat award amount will be set annually each January before students’ senior year.  These awards are not retroactive to past Promise awardees from high school graduation cohort years prior to 2027.
